Greta Thunberg is a Swedish climate activist who initiated her career in activism with a school strike outside the Swedish parliament building. Following her ongoing environmentalist action, Greta was named 'Person of the Year' by TIME magazine in 2019. A life-sized bronze statue of Greta titled 'Make a Difference' was commissioned by the University of Winchester to commemorate their declaration of a climate emergency in 2019 and honour their ongoing commitment to sustainability and social justice.
The sculpture celebrates Greta Thunberg’s achievements, made in spite of the disadvantages that she has had in life. Artist Christine Charlesworth hopes it will serve as inspiration to young people to ‘make a difference’ and to persevere in overcoming problems in their own lives and also to make a difference in the world.’
