The Cracker Packers – the affectionate nickname for workers at the former Carr’s factory – was created by award-winning artist Hazel Reeves. Hazel is passionate about people and their stories, specialising in figure and portrait commissions in bronze.
The Cracker Packers sculpture features two women workers, one from 1910 and one from the present day. They are standing on a bronze Carr's Table Water biscuit mounted on a granite plinth. The sculpture was unveiled in Carlisle, Cumbria on International Women’s Day – 8 March 2018. The artist wanted to create a sculpture that celebrates the city’s female workforce; conveying their humour, warmth and trust, past and present.
